What changes the rate.

Tier X pays the full schedule. Tier Y is about 10% lower, Tier Z about 20%. NABH, non-NABH, and super speciality hospitals have separate rates. General, semi-private, and private wards can differ. Every value is the published rate, not an estimate.

What changes the rate.

The CGHS schedule is not a single price list. Each procedure has a rate for a combination of city tier, hospital accreditation, and ward entitlement.

01

City tier

Tier X is the full schedule. Tier Y rates are about 10% lower and Tier Z about 20% lower. Some items, such as blood components, are the same in every city.

02

Hospital accreditation

NABH accredited hospitals, non-NABH hospitals, and super speciality hospitals each have their own rate. Each value is read from the schedule.

03

Ward entitlement

General, semi-private, and private wards can carry different rates. Many procedures do not vary by ward at all, so the comparison shows the published ward rate, rounded to the nearest rupee, instead of a fixed adjustment.

Hospital bills are hard to argue with. A reference rate helps.

In February 2024 the Supreme Court urged the Centre to standardise hospital charges or apply CGHS rates universally. Read the order.

What these rates are. CGHS rates are official reference rates for CGHS scheme beneficiaries. They are not mandatorily applicable to general patients, and hospitals may bill differently for private care. Always verify the current rate at cghs.mohfw.gov.in.
